Literacy and Numeracy in the Early Years

A paper prepared by researchers at the RCH Education Institute for the Victorian Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat and the Early Childhood Development Division of DEECD has brought together broad understandings of what it means for children to be literate in the 21st century. The research clearly shows that education cannot be separated from the other developmental domains of young children; and that best practice pedagogy incorporates a holistic understanding of the many literacies children in the early years require and the settings across the home-early years-school spectrum.
