The Medical Workforce Unit (MWU) oversees the centralised recruitment, onboarding and rostering of junior medical staff (JMS) at the Royal Children's Hospital (RCH).
These JMS include Junior Resident Medical Officers (JRMOs), Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMOs), Registrars and Fellows, working both on-site at RCH and rotating through various outer metropolitan and regional secondment sites, as part of a state-based approach to paediatric training.
Recruitment to accredited basic paediatric training in Victoria is jointly managed by the RCH and Monash Health. Under this agreement, the RCH are responsible for the recruitment of JRMO and Registrar positions, with Monash Health overseeing recruitment to training pathways at SRMO level.
The RCH also employs a further 200 JMS across a range of medical specialty training programs in accredited, unaccredited and honorary roles. These JMS are appointed directly by clinical program/units to department-based positions, with MWU providing support for contracting and compliance with industrial and regulatory requirements, including professional registration and visa requirements for international medical graduates (as specified by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency - Ahpra and the Australian Government - Department of Home Affairs).
