Medical Imaging

GPs and paediatricians can request Medical Imaging through the RCH Medical Imaging Department. The department is located on the 2^nd Floor of the main hospital building in Flemington Road, Parkville.

Modalities

The department is staffed by Specialist Paediatric Radiologists and performs studies in the following modalities:

Plain film
Digital OPG
CT
Ultrasound
MRI
Fluoroscopy
Nuclear Medicine
Interventional Radiology

Waiting lists

For most modalities, (except MRI), bookings can usually be made the same or next day. A waiting list maybe expected for some modalities depending on the urgency. For example, a non-urgent ultrasound appointment can usually be scheduled within the next three weeks.

Reporting

We aim to fax or email imaging reports within a twenty-four hour turnaround time. Requests for more urgent reports can be accommodated if the requirements are clearly marked on the request card. Copies of images are also available on CDROM if requested.

Accessibility

RCH car parking is available at around $4 for the first hour up to around $19 for 4-24 hours.

A Concession rate is available for holders of a bluecard marked with DSP or a carer's allowance.

Meter parking is available along Flemington Road and in parking bays near the side entrance to the hospital in Gatehouse Street. Free parking is available along Gatehouse Street in 2 or 4 hour zones, although these can be difficult to acquire.

Alternatively, there is a tram-stop outside the hospital entrance in Flemington Road and the hospital is only 15 minutes from Melbourne Central and 18 minutes from Flinders Street stations via tram. See Tram Network.

Wheelchair ramp access is available at both the front and side entrances to the hospital.

Our department offers Bulk Billing for all privately referred patients.
