About us

The Care by Parent Unit is an area that provides care for a diverse range of patients and their parent/guardian whom do not require an acute care bed, but need to stay in the hospital.

Patients that stay in the Care by Parent Unit are medically stable but require intermittent nursing, medical or allied health interventions. For example: patients from the country or interstate who require tests, scans or preperation prior to surgery or treatment on the ward. Alternatively patients who no longer require an acute bed but still reqiure ongoing daily treatment.

A clerk is present in the unit from Monday to Friday to take bookings and referrals and orientate families to the Unit. A parent/guardian must be available to stay with the patient for the duration of their stay. If the child is transferred to the ward the room will no longer be avaiable for the parent/guardian. Parent accommodation will need to be arranged by the home unit if necessary.

We are located on the 5th Floor of the Front Entry Building at the Royal Childrens Hospital Flemington Road Parkville.
