Developmental and Autism Assessment Intake

  • The AMDAC clinic is now running Tuesday afternoons in Specialist Clinic B at RCH providing Multidisciplinary, Developmental and Autism Assessment services for children aged 0-6.

As part of this project a single point of entry for children aged 0-6 requiring Autism assessment has been established.

The clinic is staffed by a Paediatrician, Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and Audiologist.  Assessment is over a two weekperiod.  The child will see the paediatrician in week one and then the Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and Paediatrician and a feedback session in week 2.

    Inclusion/Exclusion

Intake is for children aged 0-6 for children requiring assessment for autism.

For children aged over 6 years, please refer using outpatient referral form or to their local public Autism Assessment Team.

    Alternatives

Some families may prefer a private assessment - please see the online list of assessment services.  Please note, the practitioners on this list are not all personally known to the RCH, but have indicated they have the skills necessary to assess for Autism.  Similarly, there are many other professionals in private practice who are not in this list, but have the necessary skills.

    Estimated Wait

    Varies depending on service.

Intake staff may reassign referrals to a clinic that provides an appropriate service, if the waiting time for an appointment is shorter . Please make a note on your referral if this is not suitable.

More comprehensive referrals are sometimes seen more quickly. Please provide as much detail as possible on the presenting complaint, pre-referral management, outcomes, investigations and results.
