The department consists of 7 perfusionists:

The RCH perfusionists are involved in training perfusionists from Australia, New Zealand and many other countries in paediatric perfusion, ECMO and centrifugal ventricular assist (VAD) procedures.  They also take part in training programs for Paediatric Intensive Care Fellows and nurses, ECMO and VAD nursing programs and cardiac theatre nursing continuing education lectures.

The perfusion department is professionally active in the Australasian Society of Cardio-Vascular Perfusionists (ASCVP) and the Australasian Board of Cardio-Vascular Perfusion (ABCP) having in the past held positions on the ASCVP and ABCP Executive Committees, and currently an ABCP position.

The department is a regular presenter at the ASCVP Annual Scientific Meeting and various conferences around the world.  It supports research conducted by the Australian Children's Heart Research Centre, the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and conducts its own research in paediatric perfusion.
