About the clinic
The Behaviour Clinic at the Centre for Community Child Health was established to support children with significant behavioural and emotional problems, which effect their everyday family, school and social life.
Patients are bulk billed for their consultations and therefore will need a referral from their general practitioner.
About behaviour
Children's behaviour develops and matures gradually over time, and can be affected by individual characteristics and by their family and social situations.
Attentional problems (eg. ADHD), aggression, defiance and poor self regulation need to be assessed and managed to help children enjoy family life, socialise well and learn well at school.
Assessment and management relies on liaison with preschool, school and other health and educational professionals. Parents are helped with behaviour management. Some children may require medications, which are carefully discussed with parents. Some may require referral to appropriate community agencies to better understand their problems.
Clinic staff include consultant paediatricians, senior paediatric trainees, and clinic coordinators. There may be teaching and research activities in the clinic.
