The Royal Children's Hospital Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes is one of the largest departments of its type in Australia. We have a national and international reputation as a leader in clinical care, research and training in paediatric endocrinology.
Our mission is to provide world-class service, research and training in the investigation and management of disorders of the endocrine system in children and adolescents. We provide outreach services for young people with diabetes and other hormone disorders to many sites in regional Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania.
We are committed to research to improve the health outcomes of both current and future generations. Our research activities focus on the key areas listed above, as part of the activities of the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute
Centre for Hormone Research. We have a particular emphasis on 'bench to clinic' or translational research. Our department is well represented in international and local journals, with publications across our
areas of interest.
Our team is also involved in teaching of both medical students and paediatric trainees, in order to provide them with appropriate grounding in important paediatric endocrine disorders. In addition, a large number of trainees, both local and international, have completed
fellowships in paediatric endocrinology in our unit. We are also involved in international teaching opportunities such as the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology's Winter and African schools. Our education and training is linked to
The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics.
