Learning to eat involves a complex interplay between a child’s social and emotional, physical and sensory, cognitive and communication development and their mealtime environment. Increasing numbers of children are presenting to health services with feeding problems.
These may range from simple to complex, may be transient or persistent and are a common cause of concern for families.
This education day will use a developmental framework for understanding the factors that contribute to the development of feeding problems in infants and young children and for exploring management strategies.
Objectives
- To increase knowledge in the use of a Feeding Development Framework for understanding and managing feeding disorders and difficulties.
- To increase skills in setting realistic goals and providing families with strategies for the management of feeding difficulties.
- To increase skills in distinguishing infants and children who require referral to specialist services.
