Assessment and when to refer

History and physical examination for all ages

• Physical examination - midline swelling between umbilicus and xiphisternum. Lump is pre-peritoneal fat protruding through a defect in linea alba which does not close spontaneously.
• Usually asymptomatic and virtually never becomes infected.
  • Refer to OPD General Surgery when there are symptoms or for cosmetic concerns.
  • Please provide history and any investigations undertaken.
