Assessment and when to refer

History and physical examination for all ages.

• Most commonly the result of a previously normal foreskin that has been retracted and not replaced.
• Oedema sets up a vicious cycle as the foreskin becomes stuck behind the glans.
• The key to avoiding the need for a GA is early reduction by the first medical person the boy sees.
  • IMMEDIATE REFERRAL to the Emergency Department if oedematous and unable to replace the foreskin.
    • Please provide history and any investigations undertaken.
