  • Where are the clinics located?

    Metabolic clinics are held at Specialist Clinic Reception Desk D (Level 1 East Building via the Yellow Lifts. 

    Please present to the reception of Desk D and check in with the Desk D staff. 

    When are the clinics held?

    Metabolic review clinics are held on  Monday mornings, Tuesday all day, every second Thursday morning.

    PKU clinic is held on Thursday afternoon's

    Lipid clinic is held on every second Thursday morning.

    New consultations are held on Tuesday and Friday's these consultations are booked for 1 hour.

    Please refer to your booking letter for details of your appointment.

    Need to cancel or reschedule a clinic appointment?

    Please phone the bookings team on: 03 9345 6180 or email: sc.pod3@rch.org.au if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.

    You will need to provide your child’s UR number when calling the bookings team, this UR number can be found on your booking letter.

    If your child is unable to attend their appointment please notify the clinic as soon as possible.  Currently the Metabolic clinics are fully booked until for several months in advance. We appreciate your help to offer cancellations to patients who are patiently waiting on our cancellation list. 

    I missed an appointment what happens now?

    If your child fails to attend ONE appointment without notifying the hospital, your child’s next appointment will be automatically rebooked, however, please note there could be 6-12 months wait.

    If your child fails to attend TWO appointments without notifying the metabolic team, you will receive a notification letter that you child will be not automatically be rebooked until you get in contact with the team on metabolic@rch.org.au so we can discuss this and assist with any difficulties wherever possible

    How do I update my address or contact details?

    You can update your child’s address via the My RCH portal or you can send an email to sc.pod3@rch.org.au including your child’s name, DOB, hospital number and updated address/ contact details.

    Why do I need a new referral every year?

    The metabolic team is a specialised service. To see a specialist, you require a referral which generally lasts for one year. Please ask your GP for a referral each year or you can ask for an indefinite referral to the Metabolic Department which will last for as long as your GP remains at the practice.

    Yes, at your next appointment you can sign up to the My RCH PORTAL, please bring a form of ID. We encourage all our patients to join the My RCH PORTAL in order to access their child’s Electronic Medical Records and communicate with the metabolic team.
