Michael Johnson was appointed as Head of Department of Orthopaedics October 2015. He has had a longstanding association with the Royal Children’s Hospital, beginning first as a Registrar in Orthopaedic training in 1999. After two years of specialist paediatric orthopaedic training in the USA and Canada during which he underwent training in spinal deformity surgery, scoliosis, club foot and neuromuscular diseases, he returned to Royal Children’s Hospital as a consultant in 2003. Michael continues involvement in General Paediatric, Spinal Deformity and Neuromuscular clinics.
Michael has served as the secretary of the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society and as a coordinator for the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Annual instructional course and is currently involved in research in scoliosis surgery for patients with cerebral palsy, early onset spinal deformity, anterior scoliosis surgery and cervical spine injuries.
