Liver Biopsy

Minimum Volume
1 to 2 mg of liver biopsy placed on the wall of a clean plain plastic specimen container (eg 5mL plain tube, MSU jar). Do not use preservatives or heparin in the container.
Comments

LABORATORY NOTES:

Store liver tissue at 4C. Transport at ambient temperature.

Confirm with the requesting doctor that it is acceptable for specimen to be sent on routine Wednesday interstate courier. Notify CSR Coordinator if immediate transport required.

On request, testing can also be performed on paraffin embedded tissue (if fresh tissue is unavailable). Note: Often the amount of tissue that can be recovered from the paraffin block is insufficient.  There can also be analytical tissue weight error with recovered tissue.
