Whole Blood - Citrate. Do NOT send via pneumatic tube.Collect a 'discard' specimen as the first tube.

This test MUST be requested via the Haematology Laboratory Register. Tests must be booked in advance (at least 24 hrs notice).

Requesting Clinician must Contact the Haematology Laboratory Registrar on pager RCH 6862 to arrange collection and timing of tests. Tests can only be collected before 10.00 hrs at RCH and 10.30 hrs at RWH (unless otherwise instructed by the RMH) as samples will not be received at RMH after midday. Only one request can be performed a day unless otherwise instructed by RMH. Samples must be kept at room temperature and immediately transported, by hand, to the laboratory - Do NOT send via pneumatic tube.

PATHOLOGY COLLECTION NOTES:

• Only one request can be performed a day. (unless otherwise authorised by RMH).
• Angel or numbing cream is NOT to be used on the patient
• When patient arrives notify Central Specimen Reception (RCH - ext 5904; RWH - ext 2550) and notify RMH 9342 8021 for a control to be arranged..
• Patients booked for this test should be seen as a PRIORITY as this is a time test and RMH will be waiting for specimen.
• DO NOT SEND ON ICE
• Blood should NOT BE SENT BY PNEUMATIC TUBE it should be hand delivered or carps.

LAB NOTES: Process immediately. Do not spin. Keep the samples at room temperature, no ice. Label esky with URGENT - PLATELET FUNCTION TESTS Samples must reach the external laboratory within and not beyond 1.5 hrs of collection.

RCH: Book an external courier and send directly to RMH.

RWH: RMH courier will pick up from RWH Core Lab at 10.45 hrs. Any requests arriving at RWH Core Lab before 09.45 hrs and after 10.45 hrs must be delivered to RMH Central Specimen Reception (CSR), alerting staff that the samples are for URGENT platelet function tests. Notify 9342 8020 when samples have been delivered to RMH CSR.
