Whole blood - EDTA (Must not be breached). Specimen cannot be shared for other tests.

If child/infant is very small DNA analysis can be performed on parents in the first instance.

LAB NOTES:

Place tape around the lid of the specimen for DNA analysis to prevent the specimen from being breached.

Forward specimen to the Haematology Workstation RCH.

If the blood specimens for DNA Analysis for Thalassaemia/Hb'opathy accompany CVS specimen, forward all specimens to VCGS as per instructions on the request form and seek advice from Thalassaemia Workstation/Senior Scientist.
